News & Events

Dear Families,

It has been a very special week at St Lawrence of Brindisi, with significant milestones for both our Year 2 Discovery students and our new Foundation students for 2025.

Reconciliation Preparation

Our Year 2 Discovery students have been preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Friday, November 8. On Thursday evening, they will be joined by their families for a Reconciliation Paraliturgy, a beautiful and reverent time of prayer and reflection to prepare them spiritually for this important sacrament. It is heartwarming to witness our school community come together in support of the children as they take this significant step in their faith journey.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who have worked tirelessly to prepare our students:

  • The Classroom Teachers for their thoughtful and engaging lessons.
  • The Learning Support Officers for their dedicated support.
  • Jay Russell, our Religious Education Leader, for his leadership and guidance in ensuring the students are fully prepared.

Please keep our Year 2 students in your thoughts and prayers as they receive this sacrament, and may this time of reflection and renewal bring them closer to God.

Exciting Foundation Transition

In addition to the Reconciliation preparations, it has been incredibly exciting to welcome our new Foundation students for 2025! This week, they participated in their 6th Transition Day, spending a whole 3 ½ hours in their new Learning Community. It was a joy to see these young students experiencing their new environment, meeting their teachers, and beginning to build connections with their future classmates.

A huge thank you to the Teachers, Learning Support Officers, and Lorraine Stevenson, our Learning Diversity Leader, who have worked so hard to ensure this transition is not only smooth but also an exciting and welcoming experience for all students. The care and attention given to each child during this time are greatly appreciated.

We look forward to seeing our new Foundation students for another two sessions, and we know that this is a very exciting time for the families as well as the children.

Introducing the New School Sport Captains and Colour Houses!

We are thrilled to announce an exciting new chapter at St Lawrence of Brindisi as we introduce our School Sport Colour Houses! To strengthen school spirit, foster teamwork, and promote healthy competition, our student community and families will be divided into four vibrant Colour Houses. These Colour Houses will play a central role in upcoming sporting and school events, with each team led by a dedicated Captain and Vice-Captain.

Each Colour House has been thoughtfully named to reflect the Franciscan Charism and to honour significant female and male saints who embody values of faith, service, and compassion. These names represent the rich heritage of the Catholic tradition and our shared commitment to living out the Franciscan ideals.

Please join us in congratulating the new Sport Captains, who will be inspiring and leading their teams:

  • St Padre Pio (Green House)
Named after St Padre Pio, a beloved Franciscan friar known for his deep spirituality, healing ministry, and unwavering commitment to prayer and service.

Captain Issac Kahsay

Vice-Captain Leilani Dladla

  • St Mary of the Cross MacKillop (Blue House)
Named in honour of St Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first saint, whose life of selfless service and dedication to education continues to inspire generations.

Captain Eva Dawson

Vice-Captain Ram Shwe

  • St Clare (Yellow House)
Named after St Clare of Assisi, a founding member of the Franciscan Order and a model of humility, devotion, and commitment to prayer and simplicity.

Captain Aman Asfha

Vice-Captain Cale Evangelista

  • St Roch (Red House)
Named for St Roch, a patron saint of healing, who devoted his life to helping the sick and living out his faith through acts of charity and compassion.

Captain Ashlyn Gogna

Vice-Captain Hargun Singh

We are excited to see the energy and enthusiasm these new Captains and Vice-Captains will bring to their teams. Let’s all get behind our Colour Houses and make the remainder of this year’s run events a memorable celebration of community, sport, and faith!

Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this exciting new journey together. Go St Lawrence of Brindisi!

New Sports uniform Tops for 2025!

We are excited to inform you that, starting in 2025, St Lawrence of Brindisi will be introducing new Sport Colour House tops for all students. These tops will be part of our ongoing efforts to build school spirit and unity through our newly established Colour Houses.

Students are encouraged to wear their Sport Colour House top for all sporting activities. This new top will replace the original sports top, creating a fresh, vibrant look for our teams. We are collaborating with the Uniform Shop to design these new tops, ensuring they are both comfortable and stylish.

We will be releasing the final design soon and are working to have them ready for purchase by early 2025. We’ll keep you updated on the availability and pricing.

Thank you for your continued support as we make these exciting changes to enhance our school community. We can’t wait to see our students proudly wearing their new Colour House tops!

Inaugural Colour Run Fundraiser – November 29!

Our Inaugural Colour Run Fundraiser is fast approaching! On November 29, students will be engaging in a fun-filled day of sport, activity, and colour as part of this exciting event. Many teachers and parents have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure this will be a day to remember, and we can’t wait to see everyone getting involved!

This event is a fantastic opportunity for students to raise funds for much-needed outdoor items, including furniture, shade, and play equipment, to help enhance our school’s outdoor environment. All students have been encouraged to create a personal fundraising profile (by next Friday 15, November), and we ask that you support them in this initiative by spreading the word and encouraging donations.

The best part? Every dollar raised will go towards improving our outdoor spaces, no matter how much each child raises. There are also some exciting incentives on offer:

  • Prizes for the students who raise the most money
  • Prizes for the class with the most students who have a profile
  • Prizes for the class that raises the most money

And of course, there’s the chance to slime a teacher! I hear there’s a lot of excited chatter around this fun opportunity, and we know it will bring lots of laughter and excitement on the day.

More details and updates will be shared as we get closer to the event, but for now, please encourage your child to set up their fundraising profile and get ready for a colourful day of fun, laughter, sport and community spirit.

Thank you for your support in helping us raise funds for this important cause!

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on this week’s milestones, we are filled with excitement and gratitude for the wonderful steps our students are taking, both in their spiritual and educational journeys. We are blessed to be a part of these meaningful moments.

Thank you once again for your continued support, and we look forward to the upcoming events with much anticipation!

Kind regards,

Caroline Madigan
